Learn More About Littleton

Pike’s Peak Gold Rush

Gold seekers, farmers, and merchants are credited for this area’s humble beginnings going as far back as the mid-1800s, but a man named “Little” made the longevity of Littleton possible.

A man named Richard Sullivan Little, an engineer from New Hampshire hired to build a series of tunnels to carry water to businesses and farms in the area and decidedly fell in love with the land.

After claiming several plots of land, he moved with his wife to the area in 1861. However, it wasn’t until around 1866 when Little erected the Rough & Ready Flour Mill that Littleton was able to generate enough economic stability to support a fledgling township.
